Breast Surgery and Lymphatic Massage Therapy

Breast surgery, like all surgeries, is no small undertaking. Recovery may begin in the days leading up to the surgery with proper preparation including reducing muscle tension and improving lymphatic flow in the area as well as proper preparatory home care.

There have been significant developments made in breast surgeries over the past two decades, massage therapists continue to be challenged to develop body treatments for both before and after surgery to facilitate better recovery.  Eryn Price, RMT created a massage therapy practice focussing primarily on helping clients to recover from their surgeries including:

  • top gender affirming surgery
  • breast augmentation
  • breast reduction
  • partial to full mastectomy
  • various forms of reconstructive breast surgeries

In 2020, Eryn created a set of videos outlining a surgeon approved home care program available on her website so that patients would be able to have the tools needed to continue their care during the COVID-19 lock down. In 2021, she developed an in-depth course on 18 different types of breast surgery and how massage therapists may help create a space for the body to better recover through each of the stages of healing: acute, sub-acute and chronic.

Our massage therapists Kiara Hanemaayer and Melissa Krull jumped at the chance to get a better understanding of what many of our clients are experiencing and how we may assist in recoveries better and easier and signed up for the first ever course offered in Vancouver. Both Kiara and Melissa have special discount codes to the tandem home care program to be given to those that come in for their pre-breast surgery massage treatment. Book your first, 1-hour lymphatic massage treatment, with Kiara or Melissa to give enough time to discuss the treatment plan and receive a full treatment. Lastly, indicate the type of surgery and proposed surgical date, if known, in the notes section when booking.
