Colombian wooding therapy or wooding is a vigorous yet relaxing massage using oil, hands and multiple wooden tools. It is purportedly over a century old originating in South America, where it is known as maderoterapia; madera is Spanish for wood.
The massage is generally not painful and rocks and shakes the body in a rhythmic manner while engaging the superficial and deep tissue layers. Wooding has many benefits such as increased blood flow and circulation, reduced body tension and converts the gel state of tissues into liquid state making it available for the lymphatic system to absorb and aid in digestion. Areas commonly treated are the upper arms, abdomen, flanks, glutes and thighs.
A few contraindications to treatment are protruding varicose veins, wounds or broken skin, rashes and pregnancy (if wanting to treat stomach).
At Flow Lymphatic Health Clinic, we have 60 and 90 minutes sessions available. Sixty minutes is enough time to treat flanks and abdomen or glutes and thighs. Ninety minutes is recommended if you’re wanting to treat more areas. A series of weekly treatments is suggested, then individual maintenance after that. Book an appointment with a registered massage therapist for a treatment.
