PEMF and Red Light Therapy

PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency)

PEMF therapy is a non-invasive method of applying energy at a safe frequency. It’s as easy as either lying on a special mat or
having a practitioner apply an applicator to a specific area of concern.

PEMF has been shown to:

  • Manage post-surgical pain and swelling (edema), chronic wounds and improve circulation and promote growth of blood vessels1
  • Reduce pain after breast augmentation surgery2
  • Improve pain in fibromyalgia patients 3

Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy goes by several names: cold laser, low-level laser therapy and photobiomodulation. All simply mean that a practitioner is applying light at a particular wavelength to the affected area of your body. At this wavelength, circulation is improved, and inflammation reduced. This can assist with faster healing of wounds, faster clearing of bruises and less scarring after surgery4.

PEMF and red light therapy are complementary with each other, and with other non-pharmacological strategies (including MLD!). They are both exceedingly safe, but because of the electromagnetic field, unfortunately, PEMF is not appropriate for those clients with pacemakers, or in early pregnancy. If either of those situations apply to you, red light-only treatment would be required.
